Putting Wifi in Your Business

wifi Businesses who have not yet implemented WiFi (or wireless computer and internet access) into their organizations often ask me about the pros and cons of doing so. The costs have come down significantly, and this technology can be implemented securely within your organization.

Why WiFi?

Increasingly both employees and your customers are driving demand. It is relatively easy and inexpensive to setup an unsecured wireless internet connection for your remote employees who are visiting your main location along with your customers who may benefit from accessing the internet while they wait or attend a meeting.

What's Involved?

A secure router such as a Linksys RangePlus with the ability to create a DMZ which will keep guests without the proper authentication out of your business network is relatively inexpensive, and setup causes minimal interruption to your business. Expect to spend $500 - $1000 to integrate wireless into your waiting area and beyond. More extensive installations that cover your whole facility and make use of new and sophisticated ways are possible, albeit require a larger investment.
